About us

Thu Yen Mac earned her Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at the New England School of Acupuncture (NESA), the country's first and oldest acupuncture school. It is a 3.3 year program that consists of over 3000 hours of academic training and clinical practice. In the last 1.5 years of the program, she did 925 hours in patient care clinic rotations at NESA, Boston Medical Center, Winchester Hospital, and Boston's Pathways to Wellness Center.

Thu Yen is also a Tong Ren Therapy practitioner and has been certified by the Oriental Culture Institute. Developed by Tom Tam, and an integral part of the Tom Tam Healing System, Tong Ren is a form of energy therapy for restoring health and vitality. Tong Ren is based on a belief that disease is related to interruptions, or blockages, in the body’s natural flow of chi, neural bioelectricity, blood, or hormones. Tong Ren seeks to remove these blockages, restoring the body’s natural ability to heal itself, even when illnesses are chronic, debilitating, or otherwise untreatable. Tong Ren combines western knowledge of anatomy and physiology with the ancient principle of “chi,” or life force energy, to create what many consider to be a powerful new healing modality."

She is a licensed acupuncturist in the state of Hawaii by the Diplomate of Oriental Medicine. A Diplomate of Oriental Medicine is a practitioner who is certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM®) and has met the certification requirements for both acupuncture and Chinese herbology. It is a considerable professional achievement to earn the designation Diplomate of Oriental Medicine. NCCAOM certification indicates to employers, patients, and peers that one has met national standards for the safe and competent practice of acupuncture and Chinese herbology as defined by the acupuncture and Oriental medicine (AOM) profession.
